Our Team

As qualified landscape architects and designers we have an established skillset and knowledge - but our strength comes from our diversity of experience. We've all had a number of different journeys that have lead us to this company. Beyond landscape architects we are parents, makers, writers, teachers, students, explorers, conservationists, builders, and it is this that helps drive our unique approach to design.

Above all else, we are a team. We collaborate on all projects, and frequently spend time throwing ideas at each other and working together to discover the best design outcomes regardless of the size of the project. We want what you want - well designed spaces that can be lived in, played with - spaces that are created to be experienced and enjoyed.

ELLIOT SUMMERS MLA – Creative Director.

A co-founder of Polygon in 2015, Elliot has overseen the development of over40 designs for play centres, residential and the occasional public space. Prior to this he was partner in Garden Consultants, a small company created to work directly with clients to enable them to create their own spaces and understand what they could achieve with a small amount of help. This is in addition to teaching at both Melbourne University and RMIT since 2010 at a masters and undergraduate level, from master planning and design to technical grading techniques.

Qualifications and Affiliations:

Master of Landscape Architecture, University of Melbourne, 2013

AILA member since 2013.

ALISTAIR KIRKPATRICK - Senior Landscape Architect

Alistair brings a wealth of experience with a background in horticulture and academic writing, he has also had multiple display gardens at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, most recently "Coming Soon" in 2022 (that one with the sinking house (Click Here)) and has had his own garden featured in The Age (Click Here). Alistair graduated from RMIT with distinction in 2012 having explored urban weed ecologies for his Masters dissertation and has written and taught multiple subjects in tertiary institutions for the last ten years, investigating themes of terrain vague and urban ecologies. Through both teaching and practice Alistair has been exploring and testing ideas of vegetation as a space generator, distorting the current top down model of hardscape being the dominant element in built projects. After co-managing AKAS Landscape Architecture for a number of years, Alistair brings a depth of expertise to all of his work at Stratis.

SARAH SMITH - Landscape Architect & Horticulturalist

Having worked as a gardener, designer and then landscape architect at Jeavons for a number of years, Sarah's skillset and experience is as unique as her distinctive design style. With a focus on the potential in creating diverse play spaces through materials and form, Sarah's inclusive approach to design ensures that all projects are viewed through a lens that focuses on the needs of the children that inhabit these spaces and how best we can create the challenges they need to achieve their full potential through play

JOY QIAO - Graduate Landscape Architect

Joy graduated from the masters program at Melbourne University in 2021, with exceptional graphic and representation skills. Apart from developing her design skills for play spaces and early learning, Joy also handles much of our image making and 3D modelling and spends a good deal of her free time creating her own artwork.
